South Africa. India defeated South Africa by 7 runs in the final held at Barbados in June 2024. It was India's second T20 World Cup title (first was in 2007 when MS Dhoni led the team). Rohit Sharma captained the 2024 team; Virat Kohli was Player of the Tournament.

Australia won the ICC ODI World Cup 2023, defeating India in the final at Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad. It was Australia's 6th ODI World Cup title. India had been unbeaten in the tournament until the final. Australia chased down 241 in 43 overs.

6 medals (1 Silver + 5 Bronze) at Paris 2024. Neeraj Chopra won the lone silver; bronze medals came from Manu Bhaker (2), Swapnil Kusale, Men's Hockey team, and Aman Sehrawat. India's best-ever haul was 7 medals at Tokyo 2020.

Silver with a throw of 89.45m. Neeraj was the defending champion but finished second at Paris 2024. Gold went to Arshad Nadeem of Pakistan with an Olympic record of 92.97m. Neeraj remains the only Indian field athlete to have won back-to-back Olympic medals.

Hangzhou, China. India won 107 medals (28 Gold, 38 Silver, 41 Bronze) at the 2023 Asian Games — its best-ever performance, surpassing the previous best of 70 medals at Jakarta 2018. India finished 4th in the overall medal tally.

18 years (18 years 8 months). Gukesh defeated Ding Liren of China in Singapore in December 2024. He broke Garry Kasparov's long-standing record set in 1985. He is also the first Indian to win the Classical World Chess Championship.

Both Open and Women's gold. India became the first nation to win both the Open and Women's team gold at the same Chess Olympiad when playing away from home (Budapest, Hungary, 2024). India's Olympiad teams were led by D. Gukesh and Koneru Humpy respectively.

Indonesia. India beat Indonesia 3-0 in the Thomas Cup 2022 final in Bangkok — India's first Thomas Cup title in 73 years (since 1952). Indonesia are 14-time champions. Lakshya Sen and the doubles pair of Rankireddy-Shetty were instrumental.

Qatar. The FIFA World Cup 2022 was held in Qatar — the first World Cup in the Middle East and the first played in November-December (due to extreme summer heat). Argentina won, defeating France in the penalty shootout. Lionel Messi won his first World Cup.

Argentina won the FIFA World Cup 2022, defeating France 3-3 in normal time and extra time before winning 4-2 on penalties. Lionel Messi finally won the World Cup in his last attempt. Kylian Mbappe scored a hat-trick in the final for France. Next FIFA WC: USA, Canada, Mexico 2026.

Wrestling (Freestyle 57 kg). Aman Sehrawat (21 years old) became the youngest Indian medallist at Paris 2024. He defeated Puerto Rico's Darian Cruz in the bronze medal bout. He is coached at Chhatrasal Stadium — the same academy that produced Sushil Kumar and Bajrang Punia.

Bronze medal. India's hockey team won bronze at Paris 2024 — their second consecutive Olympic bronze (first since Tokyo 2020 which ended India's 41-year Olympic hockey medal drought). Captain Harmanpreet Singh was the team's leading scorer and also won Khel Ratna 2024.

Los Angeles, USA (LA28). The 2028 Summer Olympics will be held in Los Angeles from July 14 to July 30, 2028. Brisbane (Australia) will host the 2032 Summer Olympics. Los Angeles has previously hosted the Olympics in 1932 and 1984.

5 times — in 2000, 2007, 2008, 2010, and 2012. Viswanathan Anand is India's first Grandmaster and is considered one of the greatest chess players in history. He is currently the FIDE Vice-President. D. Gukesh became India's second Classical World Chess Champion in 2024.

50m Rifle 3 Positions. Swapnil Kusale became the first Indian to win an Olympic medal in the 50m Rifle 3 Positions event. This was India's third shooting medal at Paris 2024 (alongside Manu Bhaker's two). Kusale is from Maharashtra and trains at the Sports Authority of India.

Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) won IPL 2024, their third IPL title. They defeated SunRisers Hyderabad in the final. Shreyas Iyer captained KKR. Previous IPL 2023 was won by Chennai Super Kings (their 5th title under MS Dhoni).

Manu Bhaker became the first Indian woman to win two medals at a single Olympic Games (Paris 2024) — 10m Air Pistol individual bronze and 10m Air Pistol Mixed Team bronze (with Sarabjot Singh). She is also the first Indian woman to win an Olympic shooting medal.

Chennai Super Kings (CSK) won IPL 2023, their 5th title — equalling Mumbai Indians' record. MS Dhoni led CSK to victory against Gujarat Titans in the final. Dhoni's strategic captaincy was widely credited for the win.

Tokyo 2020 (held in 2021). India won 7 medals — 1 Gold (Neeraj Chopra, Javelin), 2 Silver, 4 Bronze. Paris 2024 yielded 6 medals (1 Silver + 5 Bronze), making Tokyo 2020 still India's best-ever Olympic performance.

Approximately 1,32,000. The Narendra Modi Stadium (formerly Sardar Patel Stadium, Motera) in Ahmedabad is the world's largest cricket stadium by seating capacity. The ICC ODI World Cup 2023 final between India and Australia was played here.
